Terms of Service

Template: replace every [BRACKETED] field and have this reviewed by a lawyer for your jurisdiction before launch. Then delete this note.

1. The service

Zero-Trust Vault ("the Service") is provided by [LEGAL NAME] ("we"). It encrypts data on your device and optionally stores encrypted copies and delivers Legacy notifications. By using it you agree to these terms.

2. You hold the keys

The Service is designed so that we cannot access your keys or decrypt your data. If you lose enough shards, forget your passphrase, or lose your passkey, nobody, including us, can recover your data. You are responsible for keeping your keys and any exported vault files safe, and for testing recovery (for example with the Verify feature).

3. Accounts

An account is optional and needed only for cloud storage and Legacy. Keep your account credentials secure. You must be at least [16/18] years old to create one.

4. Plans and payment

5. Legacy

Legacy sends reminders to your account email and, if you do not check in within the period you choose, emails your trustees with the message, links and optional shard you configured. Email delivery depends on third parties and recipients' mail systems; we will make reasonable efforts, including retries, but cannot guarantee delivery or that trustees act on it. Legacy is not a will and does not replace legal estate planning.

6. Acceptable use

Do not use the Service to store or distribute illegal content, to infringe others' rights, or to attack the Service or other users. We may suspend accounts that do.

7. Fair use of cloud storage

Pro includes unlimited vaults for personal and small-business use, subject to a fair-use limit of [e.g. 5 GB] per account.

8. Availability and changes

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. The offline app lets you open vaults without our servers. We may change the Service or these terms; material changes will be announced in advance.

9. Disclaimer and liability

The Service is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data that results from lost keys, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION]. Contact: [CONTACT EMAIL].
